Suan Dusit University Suphanburi Campus Hosts Knowledge Transfer and Workshop on “Suphanburi Fragrant Rice” for Sustainable Wellness

On February 17, 2026, Suan Dusit University, Suphanburi Campus, organized a knowledge transfer and hands-on workshop focusing on the conservation and utilization of Suphanburi fragrant rice. The activity was part of a development plan to register the rice as a Geographical Indication (GI) product and to enhance its value through innovation. This initiative operates under the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (RSPG – SDU), fiscal year 2026.

Dr. Waranee Wessuntornthep, Vice President for Suphanburi Campus, delivered the welcome remarks and project report. The event was officially opened by Ms. Potjana Sema, Suphanburi Provincial Agriculture and Cooperatives Officer.

The workshop aimed to promote environmental conservation and health (wellness) through sustainable practices in cultivating and utilizing Suphanburi fragrant rice. Key sessions included:

            •           Rice Cultivation: Led by Mr. Sumet Chimphet, Subdistrict Headman of Sanam Klee, sharing practical knowledge on cultivating Suphanburi fragrant rice.

            •           Environmental Conservation: Presented by Mr. Suchart Jadjaidee from the Rice Science Institute, focusing on eco-friendly rice farming practices.

            •           Health and Wellness: Delivered by Dr. Pluemjai Chotikadechanarong, an occupational medicine physician from Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital.

            •           Food Innovation Demonstration: Conducted by Dr. Natcha Phanwong, lecturer from the School of Culinary Arts, demonstrating value-added food products from Suphanburi fragrant rice.

The event took place at the Sanam Klee Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Mueang Suphanburi District, Suphanburi Province, and brought together local leaders, experts, and community members. It reflects the university’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, community engagement, and the promotion of local wisdom through innovation.
