SDU Hosts Royal Merit-Making Rite for Queen Sirikit
Tuesday afternoon, 2.30 p.m., July 21, 2026 — Suan Dusit University carried out a merit-making ceremony it had been granted Royal permission to host, chanting the Abhidhamma at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother.
Asst.Prof.Dr.Pitauk Chancharoen, the university’s President, led the delegation into the Grand Palace. Beside him stood Assoc.Prof.Patcharee Suankaew, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dr.Waranee Wessunthorntep, Vice President for Suphanburi Campus Affairs, with faculty, staff, and students following behind.
He presided over the rite himself — lighting candles and incense at the royal offering stand, then paying his respects before Her Majesty’s remains, resting beneath the Nine-Tiered White Umbrella of State.
When the chanting drew to a close, Dr.Pitauk and Assoc.Prof.Patcharee stepped forward together to offer monk’s robes in the sadap pakorn tradition. Dr.Pitauk then poured the ceremonial water himself, marking the rite’s completion.
Before leaving, the delegation gathered once more — Dr.Pitauk, Assoc.Prof.Patcharee, and Dr.Waranee, alongside the wider university community — to lay a wreath before Her Majesty’s portrait, a final gesture of reverence and gratitude offered in her memory.
