Bachelor of Arts Program in Thai Language and Culture Holds “Opening Up the World of Thai Language and Culture” Project

Boats replaced classroom chairs for one afternoon when Suan Dusit University’s Thai Language and Culture students launched “Opening Up the World of Thai Language and Culture.” Their first stop was a route called “Stroll and Sail: A Taste of the Best of Dusit,” following the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal from Hua Lamphong Station out to Wat Thewarat Kunchon. Asst.Prof. Dr. Duangkamol Assawamas, who heads the program at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, put the whole thing together — the goal being history students could actually walk through, not just study from a textbook.

Two outside guests made sure that history came alive. Yutthanawarakorn Saeng-aram, a senior curator with the National Museum Bangkok, came along for the ride, alongside Saran Makrudin, who teaches Thai sculpture at Poh-Chang Academy of Arts under Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin. The pair pointed students toward landmarks on both sides of the canal that most people would simply pass without noticing.

By the time the group reached Wat Thewarat Kunchon Woravihan, the day had built toward something more ceremonial — an opening rite that included merit-making, paying respects at the temple’s Buddha images, and offering a royal-style ceremonial cloth. First- and second-year students filled the roster, with the whole event stretching from noon to five in the evening on July 26, 2026.
