Suan Dusit University Suphanburi Campus Joins 2026 Candle Procession Festival
Dr. Waranee Vessoontorntep holds the role of Vice President for Suan Dusit University’s Suphanburi Campus. She sent staff from the campus’s Arts and Culture Preservation Office to take part in the 2026 Candle Procession Festival, which Thais call Hae Thian Phansa. The office often takes part in cultural events like this, since preserving Thai culture is part of its work.
Hae Thian Phansa takes place every year, right around the start of Buddhist Lent. People in the community carry candles they’ve carved by hand over to nearby temples. Those candles give the monks light during the three-month rains retreat that follows. It’s one of the most visible Buddhist traditions in Suphanburi each year.
This year, the event was held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from noon to 4:30 p.m. It started at Mangkorn Sawan Park. It ended at Wat Pa Lelai Worawihan. Both places are in Mueang Suphanburi District, Suphanburi Province.
