The 9th International Symposium on Special Education (ISSED9) Theme: “Life Transitions – Learning, Living, and Working for Children with Special Needs”
Suan Dusit University, through the Faculty of Education and the Sirote Pholpuntin Institute, in collaboration with the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, the Foundation for the Deaf under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen, the Anusornsuntorn Foundation for the Deaf under Royal Patronage, and Panyawutthikorn School, is organizing the 9th International Symposium on Special Education (ISSED9) under the theme “Life Transitions – Learning, Living, and Working for Children with Special Needs.” The event will take place from June 11 to 13, 2025, at Raktakanit Auditorium, 2nd Floor, Suan Dusit University.
A highlight of the symposium is the presentation of the findings from a national opinion survey titled “Special Education from the Thai Perspective,” conducted by the Sirote Pholpuntin Institute in partnership with Suan Dusit Poll. This research offers in-depth insights into public attitudes and understanding of special education in Thailand. In addition, academic research will be presented from countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Japan.
The symposium will also include an honor award ceremony recognizing four distinguished individuals for their contributions to special education:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirote Pholpuntin, Advisor to the President of Suan Dusit University, for his leadership in promoting special education and research in the field.
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Pitak Chancharoen, President of Suan Dusit University, for his role in advancing special education in higher education.
- Khun Suksanan Chotikasaetien, Chairman of the Foundation for the Deaf under the Royal Patronage, for his dedication to improving the quality of life for the deaf community.
- Dr. Tree Boonchuea, Director of the Complaints and Consumer Protection Bureau in Broadcasting and Television, for his advocacy in media accessibility and rights of persons with disabilities.
This international symposium serves as a vital platform for exchanging knowledge, disseminating academic work, and fostering collaboration between local and international educational institutions. It aims to provide stakeholders access to innovative practices that enhance the quality of life for individuals with special needs and encourage inclusive participation from families and communities.
The opening ceremony will be presided over by Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, Minister of Education of Thailand. Distinguished international guests include H.E. Mr. Robert F. Godec, U.S. Ambassador to Thailand, and Ms. Julia Feeney, Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Thailand.
The program will also feature keynote presentations by leading national experts:
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonwan Weerathummo, Secretary-General of the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, on “Teacher Development for Special Education.”
- Sub Lt. Thanu Wongchinda, Secretary-General of the Basic Education Commission, on “Basic Education Policy for Children with Special Needs.”
- Dr. Naina Tanchareon, Director of the Bureau of Special Education, sharing her experience in managing special education systems.
