Day 2 of the Project “Confucius Institute in Hua Hin: Preserving the Timeless Charm of Thai–Chinese Cultural Relations” (15 November 2025)
The “Confucius Institute at Hua Hin’s Everlasting Charm: Thai-Chinese Cultural Ties” project commenced on November 15, 2025, focusing on the dissemination of Chinese language and culture, a core mission of the Confucius Institute at Suan Dusit University. The project was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Pacharee Suankaew, Vice President for Student Affairs, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at Suphan Buri.
Morning Activities: Culture and History
The day began with a traditional Chinese deity worship ceremony at the Lui Iam Yee Vegetarian Hall. Participants included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Panarat Srisaeng, Director of the Hua Hin Educational Center, and faculty members from the center, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Sara Meeponkit, Asst. Prof. Dr. Duangkamol Assawamat and faculty from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The event brought together all sectors involved, including SDU Hua Hin Center staff and representatives from schools in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, providing participants with the opportunity to learn the Chinese language alongside historical and cultural insights.
Field Study: Bueng Bua Nature Study Center
Following the ceremony, the group traveled to the Bueng Bua Nature Study Center within Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. Here, participants engaged in activities that combined Chinese language learning with knowledge of geography, geology, and wetlands.
The session featured experts from the National Park and SDU faculty. Lecturers from the Thai Language and Culture Program—Asst. Prof. Dr. Ekachai Phumduang, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yussanee Sommathat and Dr. Worawet Onnom delivered lectures on the regional geography, geology, and wetland ecology. Simultaneously, faculty from the Chinese for Service Industry Program—Lect. Napakanya Trarungrueang, Lect. Jittiporn Chaiprakopwiriya, and Lect. Prapat Noklertpan—and Mr. Su Kunfeng from the Hua Hin Center—taught Chinese vocabulary specific to these geographical and geological concepts.
Afternoon Session: Khao Daeng Nature Study Center
In the afternoon, the project moved to the Khao Daeng Nature Study Center, still within Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. The participants continued their integrated learning, focusing on Chinese language combined with knowledge of geology, wildlife, and local folklore.
Once again, National Park officers and SDU faculty shared their expertise. Faculty from the Thai Language and Culture Program—Asst. Prof. Dr. Ekachai Phumduang, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yussanee Sommathat and Dr.Worawet Onnom delivered lectures on the regional geography, geology, and wetland ecology. Simultaneously, faculty from the Chinese for Service Industry Program—Lect. Napakanya Trarungrueang, Lect. Jittiporn Chaiprakopwiriya, and Lect. Prapat Noklertpan—and Mr. Su Kunfeng—taught the relevant Chinese vocabulary for discussing geology, wildlife, and folklore in this specific environment.
