SDU Council Marks Buddhist Lent with Candle Workshop

Suan Dusit University’s Faculty and Staff Council ran a special activity for Buddhist Lent called “Create Your Light: Design Your Own Faith,” meant to keep a Buddhist tradition alive while building a little shared merit and good cheer along the way.

Asst.Prof.Dr.Asorop Waichiankham led the workshop with a team of instructors from the Home Economics program, Suphan Buri Campus, walking participants through the process by hand. It ran Friday, July 17, 2026, at Activity Room 2.

The room stayed warm and easygoing all day, drawing a full turnout of staff, students, and other interested visitors. Everyone worked through four creative stations: learning the real meaning behind offering candles for Buddhist Lent, picking scents and colors to design their own minimalist-style candle, hand-crafting and decorating the candle with dried flowers, and finally writing a short prayer to tuck alongside the candle for good fortune.

Each participant walked away with two handmade scented candles of their own design. Some chose to leave theirs with the organizing team to offer at a temple later; others took them home to make merit on their own. Either way, it turned craft into something quietly Buddhist, giving the Suan Dusit community a relaxed, feel-good moment together.
